The American car scene has much more to offer than just V8 muscle cars…
For American Car fans there’s nothing quite like a V8 American muscle car whether it’s a Mustang, Camaro or Charger. The sheer power and grunt is something that sends a little tingle down your spine, deafens your ears and makes you smile. From the Ford Windsor 350 to the Dodge Hemi these awesome engine with mega cubic cylinder capacity are loved the world over by cars fans but stepping aside from these there are some awesome cars with equally interesting engines to consider.
Many early classic American cars have straight six engines. They might not pack the horsepower but this was common place in early production cars. You also have the V6 cars. Which in terms of owning an American truck or car can be a good choice. Plenty of power underfoot when you need, a nice roar but better fuel economy. In fact we have seen a resurgence of Muscle car looks with V6 engines being imported in to the UK. A personal favourite of mine are S197 Ford Mustang’s in V6, the are quick but make for a great every day driver. There are also some great 4 cylinder cars out there too. We recently restored a Pontiac Grand Am which had a 4 cylinder Quad 4 engine. Historically important because it was General Motors first ever 4 cylinder produced by someone other than Cosworth. It’s a great little engine with nice low end power.
Anyway, the moral of the story is if you are looking to buy an American car don’t get fully hung up on the V8 options consider some of the other engine choices and remember it’s great to keep all these cars on the road!
