Servicing and repairing your American car can be fun but equally full of heartache…
For us American car and truck fans, new or old we enjoy working on our cars. Whether its a simple oil change service or fault finding on running issue. The satisfaction of doing it yourself or the excitement of solving a long running issue its part of the hobby but we all need a little help sometimes.
Over the years we’ve built up quite a collection of tools and knowledge to boot and daily in our workshops we are using it. When new stock arrives we are usually carrying out what we call a classic American car service which is made up of oil change, oil/air and fuel filters, new spark plugs and ignition leads. We also depending on how much a vehicle has been modified it may well need an all round setting up. Often people bolt on all kinds of parts and never fully set them up to work with each other. Getting this right particularly with the carburettor engines is crucial. The principles of correct fuel, spark and air go a long way.
We’re often doing repairs to suspension components and changing out ball joints and anti roll bar links to solve handling issues or bad tyre wear. We’ve built up a great network of American parts suppliers in the UK and the USA which is handy. Planning on servicing parts is crucial whether its on new stock or customers cars in the workshop. A normal UK car you can get parts same day but when we plan to American car servicing or repairs we need to think ahead and get everything ordered. Some of the most valuable kit we have is our diagnostics tools be it OBD2 scanners for the modern US vehicles or the the OBD1 flashing light readers for some of 80’s and 90’s fuel injected cars.
We literally see it all and enjoy working on everything from 50’s trucks to 70’s muscle cars and love working on the modern American vehicles too. We look after numerous Camaro’s, Ram’s and Mustangs for our customers and it definitely makes for an interesting garage.
